Chronicling the Tuckshop

On the rare day that we do not need to trek into the city for uni, we both craved a healthy breakfast at our usual favourite spots in Sydney's inner-city suburbs. Luckily for us, we did not need to take the long journey into town to get that, since the Tuckshop opened in our local suburb of Glenhaven. You could be forgiven for forgetting you were 35km out of an eclectic inner-city suburb thanks to their quirky menu and enthusiastic staff, living up to the quote on their menu stating, "where is it not the city and you couldn't care less". If you want perfect coffee, food and friendly service then we strongly recommend this slice of "Glenheaven".

Chronicling Circa Espresso

On this gloomy Summer morning, we were quite reluctant about trekking out to our pre-planned morning in Glebe because of Sydney's bipolar weather. So, we opted to stay more local and spend our morning coffee catch-up inside Parramatta's Circa Espresso cafe. This hidden gem in Wentworth Street momentarily transports you to Surry Hills' homely and electric brunch spots with its graffiti-clad walls and industrial interiors. This popular hideaway is definitely one of our top picks for the best coffee in Sydney.

Chronicling Sydney Harbour Bridge + Kirribilli

On this gloomy Friday morning in Sydney's CBD,  we decided a caffeine fix was vital. Although, what probably wasn't "vital" was our choice to do the 3km walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge to get it. Thankfully, it was the best coffee either of us had consumed in a long time, in an intimate, rustic cafe lining Kirrbilli's Upper Pitt Street.

Chronicling Crown St, Surry Hills

The best thing about going to university in Sydney's CBD is that we are surrounded by inner-city suburbs like Surry Hills, that have transformed from a working man's area to modern and creative hubs for Sydney's most artistic talents. On this abnormally warm winter's day, we decided to explore its main thoroughfare, Crown Street, and ended up enjoying ricotta pancakes and a vegetarian bagel in an old converted terrace house at the Ampersand Cafe and Book Store. If we had a minimum of $1 million to spare, then we would definitely live here, savouring every kind of cafe at our doorstep.

Chronicling Paddington + Walsh Bay

Today we explored some of our favourite places in Sydney, in a new light. Amongst Sydney’s rich history and culture, we found ourselves between the vibrant terrace lined streets of Paddington at the Ampersand CafĂ© and Bookstore. This unpolished gem sits in the heart of the arterial route of Oxford Street offering coffee, food, novels and art in one small, delicious package.

We then headed deep into Sydney’s CBD, where the concrete jungle of high-rise office blocks are embellished with fifty suspended birdcages above Angel Place, called ‘Forgotten Songs”. This tranquil thoroughfare then guided us to our next destination, the serene waterfront location of Walsh Bay, where everything old has been rejuvenated. Amongst the renovated Maritime wharves are the cultural theatres, performing arts arenas and restaurants, with a panoramic view of Sydney Harbour. Within the few kilometres we explored today, we experienced the dynamics that make up the beautiful cultural mosaic of Sydney.
